Hearts of Iron III: Preview

Sequels of well-known game series released recently are forming an unpleasant trend: their gameplay is extremely simplified for novice users. And this is even in cases where the parent projects, which secured an excellent reputation for the brand, were famous for their serious gameplay, taking into account hundreds of aspects and details. This was the case with a series of global strategies Hearts of Iron, dedicated to World War II.

Company Paradox Interactive, announced the third part"Victory Day" (Russian version of the name), immediately reassured old fans: there is no need to be afraid of significant simplification. The features of the genre require careful attention to the smallest details, and leaving even some of them to the traditionally dumb AI would be blasphemy and disrespect towards the fans. Therefore, the developers promise that in the second half of 2009 (and there is no point in expecting a prequel before) we will see the good old Hearts of Iron, but with an updated graphical component and a little work on bugs, without which not a single project can do.

It would seem that the Lunaslotscasino.co.uk events of the past will not change, no matter from what point of view you look at them. And even more so, the world that took part in them will not change. But it’s not difficult for developers to expand the game universe, and Paradox Interactive I did it with pleasure. We are promised 150 playable states and ten thousand provinces. Each region can be drawn into war at almost any stage (the time frame of the storyline is from 1936 to 1948) and thereby turn the course of history in the other direction. Some powers are members of powerful government alliances, of which there will be three in the game: Western Allies, Communists and Fascists. Who is who, I think, there is no need to explain: any schoolchild is aware of the main milestones of World War II. Small countries will have to strengthen their position in the international arena in other ways: diplomacy, threats of force, or simply money.

Because the scale Hearts of Iron 3 increased significantly, in Paradox Interactive decided to save the player from the most routine processes. For example, local battles no longer require strict supervision from the gamer. The “bow leader” sitting at the computer performs rather administrative functions: he solves global problems, sets attack directions and determines war tactics. Local commanders will do the rest. Developers assure that this innovation is not a simplification that loyal fans are so afraid of: in a huge world "Victory Day"It is impossible to do without reasonable delegation of authority. Of course, especially important battles can be taken under personal control – but the need for this will not appear very often.

More Hearts of Iron 3 boasts such a feature as the complete absence of the phrase Game Over. Even if hated enemies captured their native country, razed the capital to the ground and took over government powers, not all is lost. You have one last chance – waging a guerrilla war, which will be controlled from the territory of another state. Nothing really is known about the methods yet, but I think the developers will use historical examples, since there are plenty of them.

What can be said definitely: Hearts of Iron 3 will win over its audience with gameplay, not visuals. After all, judging by the screenshots, the latter is clearly far from modern delights. It is based on the significantly outdated graphics engine Europa Universalis 3. That’s just the riot of colors that delighted us in the game of the same name, in the third "Victory Day"there’s no room: we’ll be treated to the usual dull gray-green color scheme for war games.

Before release Hearts of Iron 3 There is a lot of time left, so it’s too early to draw conclusions about how high-quality the product will be on store shelves. One thing is clear: Paradox Interactive clearly doesn’t want to spoil the brand’s reputation, and therefore tries his best and takes into account the wishes of the fans. We hope that the result will exceed our expectations.
