Once the news reaches Russia, her fairytale is threatened as his parents set out for New York to get the marriage annulled.. IMDb Editor Arno Kazarian offers up quick takes on 12 movies he screened at the 2024 New York Film Festival, including Anora and the dangerous, curiously erotic Misericordia..

At the Cannes Film Festival press conference, Mikey Madison said that director Sean Baker would act out different sex positions with his wife, producer Samantha Quan, to demonstrate to the actors what he wanted them to do.. I know to make a film takes a lot of efforts and to write a review is a matter of a couple of minutes.
Anyway, I wanted to write my thoughts
I was looking forward to seeing this film, I liked another Sean Baker's film "Project Florida". And I have seen a few others.
The film is too long for this story
"Anora" has a nice atmosphere, actors are doing their job well but I found humor repetitive as well as some scenes which I'd personally cut. Also, the Russians seemed caricature to me, especially the evil mother. The first part is not bad but the second starting with the Armenians invading "the mansion" was funny at first but then turned boring to me.
It seems to me that the script could have been written/edited better
The last scenes with Yura Borisov added depth to the characters and I started feeling at least something towards them.In general, it's not a bad film but not something I would love to rewatch. See the full lineup for the 62nd New York Film Festival this Fall.
