Line of Events
It follows Catherine Ravenscroft, a TV documentary journalist whose job is to uncover the transgressions of long-respected institutions. Gary Oldman was originally rumored to be cast, but he was replaced by Kevin Kline.
How did Alfonso Cuaron manage to make such a terrible show?
From the start, the two young men on the train in the first scene come off as irritating and the mediocre acting continues from there. Even Kevin Kline, who in my eyes normally does nothing wrong, seems to be talking on the phone.
The narration is unnatural and has a strange, inconsistent sound quality
It’s like the actors have no idea how they’re supposed to portray their characters. I guess the narration is taken straight from the book, but it doesn’t always make sense in the context of the TV show.
Kodi Smit-McPhee mopes like a wet rag
For example, sometimes the narration focuses on Cate Blanchett’s character discussing her own experience, which is just weird. Sacha Baron Cohen seems out of place and at times becomes strangely hysterical.
